In early 1995, Emmett and me decided to quit our lonely living and start a network.
It should be a fido-compatible message network (for ease of installation) that connects our systems (The Orange Clockwork and Outatime). It also had a name: PhysNet (because of us being not-yet-students of physics). Well, PhysNet was a total success and soon grew by 50% at once as our friend and soon-to-be-engeneer Teddy Bear (of whom can be found more on his homepage) joined PhysNet as a point.
Eventually, because of constant moaning by Teddy Bear, PhysNet was
renamed into KB-Net (of which I won't explain the name as it refers
to four of the darker years in my life). On the positive side, KB-Net
expanded yet a second time as Anancus (another engeneer, without
homepage this time) joined
Outatime as a second point and
Discovery (a student in chemistry
from Neuchâtel, now the Sysop of
GAiA BBS) became TOC's
first point.
As nobody liked the name any longer, we started a
long and exhaustive quest for a new name. Among many entries
(LinkUndNet, PlaNet, GarNichNet) the name MAG-NET was chosen by all
of the participients, and so stayed it.
As finally MagiX (a guy from Neuchâtel who is doing his studies in Genève right now and is sysopping The Home Of The Programmer, BBS) managed to get it's config right (excuse-moi, Denis, mais je n'ai pas pu resister) we started to be a real swiss network.
Being a Sysop and not being node was of course no option to stay with, so we changed the status of GAiA BBS from a point to a node as soon as Discovery got his own phone line. So this is what MAG-NET is like right now.
[Sorry but this has to wait until I find a graphical map of switzerland. If you happen to have one, feel free to mail it to me!]
